Barton’s Bookshop has its own Book Group. Although there are just over a dozen members in total, each meeting is a relaxed collaboration of usually half a dozen or so people who share a love for books. We love to read and we love talking about books.
We are not an especially earnest group and do not tend to worry books to pieces by deconstructing them to lay bare their bones. Nor do you have to feel compelled to read every single book chosen or to finish a particular book.
We may well discuss themes and compare and contrast with other books, but as a social group, we can also use the book of the month to launch our thoughts and discussions on a vast array of subjects, categories and preoccupations. We meet in the shop itself on the second Monday of the month from 20.00 until about 22.00 pm.
Books for reading are chosen by the group and range as widely as our imaginations take us. There is always wine, water, juice and coffee available – sometimes home-made cakes and biscuits.
Members of the group benefit from a 10% discount on all their in-store purchases.

You are welcome to come anyway and lead us on a tangent elsewhere.
